Trust & Safety
How moderation works here. No secret algorithms. No mystery rules. Just the full breakdown.
The philosophy
Most marketplaces have hidden rules. You post something, it gets removed, and you get a vague message about "community guidelines" with no explanation. That's annoying. And it's usually because the real rules would embarrass them.
We're doing it differently. Here's exactly how listings get approved, what makes a "trusted user", and how community reports work. No secrets.
How listings get approved
There are three paths. Which one applies depends on who you are and what you're posting.
Path 1: Instant Approval
Your listing goes live immediately. No waiting, no review.
You need ALL of these:
- Verified email
- Account at least 7 days old
- Trust score of 4.0 or higher
Path 2: Quality-Based Approval
Not a trusted user yet? Your listing can still get auto-approved if it's good quality.
What counts:
- Quality score of 0.7 or higher (see breakdown below)
- No red flags in the content
- Not on the auto-reject list (prohibited items, known spam patterns)
Path 3: Manual Review
A human looks at it. Usually quick, but depends on the queue.
This happens when:
- New account + low quality listing
- Something triggered a filter (suspicious words, patterns)
- Category is high-risk (e.g. services, high-value items)
- Previous listings had problems
Quality score breakdown
Every listing gets a quality score from 0 to 1. Here's exactly what we measure:
| Factor | Weight | What we're looking at |
|---|---|---|
| Photos | 30% | 0 photos = 0 points. 1 photo = partial. 3+ photos = full points. |
| Description | 25% | Length, specificity, proper sentences. 500+ characters for full points. |
| Price | 15% | Has a price, and it's reasonable for the category. |
| Title | 15% | Specific and descriptive. "Item for sale" = bad. Actual description = good. |
| Category | 10% | Content matches the category selected. |
| Location | 5% | Has a location set. Suburb level is enough. |
Pro tip:
Aim for 0.7+. That's 3 good photos, a proper description (a paragraph, not a sentence), a clear price, and an accurate category. Takes 5 minutes and your listing goes live faster.
Trust score (reputation)
Your trust score is your reputation. Everyone starts at 3.0 out of 5.0. It goes up or down based on your activity.
Goes up when
- +0.5Email verified
- +0.2Each completed sale
- +0.1-0.3Positive review received
- +0.1Account age (per month, caps at +0.5)
Goes down when
- -0.3Report filed against you (confirmed)
- -0.5Listing removed by moderator
- -0.2Negative review received
- -1.0Scam attempt (serious)
What the numbers mean:
- 4.5 - 5.0: Excellent. You're basically a known good actor.
- 4.0 - 4.4: Trusted. Instant approval for your listings.
- 3.0 - 3.9: Normal. Standard review process.
- 2.0 - 2.9: Caution. Your listings get extra scrutiny.
- Below 2.0: Problems. May face restrictions or suspension.
Community moderation
The community helps catch what automation misses. Here's how reports work:
Report thresholds
- 3Reports on a listing = auto-hidden pending review
- 2Reports on a message = auto-hidden
- 5Reports on a user = flagged for manual review
What you can report
Listings
- Spam or scam
- Prohibited item
- Wrong category
- Misleading content
- Suspected stolen goods
- Duplicate
Users
- Harassment
- Scammer
- Fake profile
- Impersonation
- Abusive messages
Important:
False reports hurt your own trust score. Don't abuse the system to mess with competitors or people you're annoyed at. We track who reports what, and patterns of false reporting get noticed.
What's not allowed
The obvious stuff that will get your listing removed and potentially your account banned:
Items
- Drugs and controlled substances
- Weapons, firearms, ammunition
- Stolen property
- Counterfeit/fake goods
- Fake IDs, forged documents
- Hacking tools, exploit kits
- Stolen accounts, credentials
- Endangered species, illegal wildlife
Services
- Adult/escort services
- Illegal gambling
- Money laundering
- Phishing, scam services
- Fake reviews, astroturfing
- Anything illegal in your area
Full list in the Terms of Service. When in doubt, it's probably not allowed.
Meeting safely
We're an online marketplace, but deals usually happen in person. Some basic safety tips:
Do
- Meet in public places (cafes, shopping centres)
- Tell someone where you're going
- Inspect items before paying
- Use cash or PayID (instant, reversible)
- Trust your gut — if it feels wrong, leave
Don't
- Pay before seeing the item
- Meet at someone's house alone
- Share unnecessary personal info
- Use wire transfers or gift cards
- Fall for "I'll send a courier" stories
Common scam patterns:
- "I'm overseas, but I'll send payment via [weird method]"
- "Can you ship it? I'll pay extra for shipping"
- "Let's move to WhatsApp/email" (trying to avoid our system)
- Too good to be true prices
- Urgency pressure ("must sell today!")
If something goes wrong
Listing removed? Check your notifications for the reason. If you think it was a mistake, you can appeal. Be honest about whether the listing actually broke the rules.
Got scammed? Report the user immediately. File a police report for significant amounts. Contact your bank if you transferred money. We can ban the scammer, but we can't recover your money.
Being harassed? Report and block. Harassment reports get priority review. For serious threats, contact police.
