Answers to the stuff people usually ask

Getting started

Do I need an account?

For browsing: No. Anyone can look around, search listings, read descriptions, see photos. No login required.

For posting or messaging: Yes. We need to know who you are. Not because we're nosy — because it helps stop scammers and lets people build a reputation.

How do I sign up?

Takes about 30 seconds:

  1. Click the account icon (top right) and hit "Log in"
  2. Enter your name, birthday, and secret words
  3. That's it. Your words are your identity. Same login works everywhere.

Pro tip: Pick words you'll remember. If you forget them, there's no "reset password" — your words ARE your identity.

Is this actually free?

Yes. For real. Posting is free. Messaging is free. There's no "premium tier" you need to pay for to actually use the thing properly.

We're not trying to make money off you. This is a community thing, not a startup trying to hit revenue targets.

Posting listings

How do I post something?
  1. Click the "Post" button (the one with the + icon)
  2. Pick a category that makes sense for what you're selling
  3. Write a title — be specific. "Couch" is bad. "3-seater grey fabric couch, great condition" is better.
  4. Add photos. More is better. Show the actual item, not a stock photo.
  5. Write a proper description. Mention condition, measurements, why you're selling, pickup/delivery options.
  6. Set a price. If you're flexible, say so.
  7. Add your location so people know roughly where you are.
  8. Submit.
Why is my listing "pending review"?

A few reasons this happens:

  • New account: Your first few listings might need a quick human check. Don't take it personally — most spam comes from brand new accounts.
  • Low quality score: Missing photos, super short description, no price. The more complete your listing, the faster it gets approved.
  • Triggered a filter: Certain words or patterns flag things for review. Usually gets sorted quickly.

Check the Trust & Safety page to see exactly what the system looks at.

How do I get instant approval?

Two paths:

1. Be a trusted user

  • Verify your email
  • Have your account for at least a week
  • Build up a good reputation (completed sales, positive reviews)
  • Hit a 4.0+ trust score

2. Make quality listings

  • 3+ photos
  • Detailed description (500+ characters)
  • Clear price
  • Accurate category

High-quality listings from newer accounts can still get auto-approved if they score well.

What can't I sell?

The obvious stuff:

  • Drugs (legal or otherwise)
  • Weapons, guns, ammo
  • Stolen goods
  • Fake/counterfeit stuff
  • Adult services
  • Fake IDs, forged documents
  • Hacking tools, stolen accounts
  • Anything illegal in your jurisdiction

Full list in the Terms.

How long do listings stay up?

30 days by default. You'll get a notification before it expires. One-click to renew if you haven't sold yet. If you did sell, please mark it as sold so people don't keep messaging you.

Buying stuff

How do I contact a seller?

Click the "Message" button on any listing. You'll need to be logged in. Messages go through our system — we don't share your email address until you choose to.

Tip: Don't just say "Hi". Say something like "Hi, is this still available? I can pick up today from [suburb]". Sellers are more likely to respond to messages that show you're serious.

How do I pay?

That's between you and the seller. We don't handle payments. Most people do:

  • Cash on pickup — See it, check it, pay for it
  • Bank transfer after inspection — Look at the item first, then transfer
  • PayID — Instant, uses your phone number or email

Big warning: Never pay for anything before you've seen it. If someone asks for payment upfront and won't meet in person, it's almost certainly a scam.

Can I save listings to look at later?

Yeah. Click the heart icon on any listing to save it. Find your saved stuff in Dashboard. You'll get notified if the price drops.

Can I get alerts for new listings?

Yep. Do a search, then click "Save this search". We'll email you when new stuff matches. Handy if you're hunting for something specific.

Trust system

How does the trust score work?

Everyone starts at 3.0. Things that raise it:

  • Verified email (+0.5)
  • Completed transactions
  • Positive reviews
  • Account age
  • Good quality listings

Things that lower it:

  • Reports from other users
  • Listings that get removed
  • Negative reviews
  • Suspicious activity

Full breakdown on the Trust & Safety page.

What's the "quality score"?

It's a 0-1 score for each listing. The system looks at:

  • Number of photos (more is better)
  • Description length and quality
  • Whether you included a price
  • Category accuracy
  • Title clarity

Score above 0.7? High chance of auto-approval, even for newer accounts.

How do I report something?

Every listing has a "Report" option. Pick a reason, add details if you want, submit. Multiple reports on the same thing = automatic review.

You can also report users directly from their profile if someone's being dodgy in messages.

When things go wrong

I think I got scammed

That sucks. Here's what to do:

  1. Report the user immediately — This flags them for review and might prevent others from getting scammed.
  2. Don't delete your messages — Keep evidence.
  3. If you paid via bank transfer — Contact your bank. Some transfers can be reversed if reported quickly.
  4. File a police report — For significant amounts, this is worth doing. Keep all records.

Honest truth: We can't get your money back. We're a marketplace, not a payment processor. But we can ban the scammer and help prevent future victims.

Someone's harassing me

Report them. There's a report option in messages. You can also block users to stop them messaging you.

Harassment reports get priority review. If someone's threatening you, that's serious — consider also contacting police.

My listing got removed and I don't know why

Check your notifications — you should have received one explaining why. Common reasons:

  • Prohibited item (see Terms)
  • Multiple reports from other users
  • Duplicate listing (you posted the same thing twice)
  • Misleading content

If you genuinely think it was a mistake, you can appeal. But be honest with yourself about whether the listing actually broke the rules.

Account stuff

I forgot my secret words

Unfortunately, there's no "reset password" for OMXUS identity. Your name + birthday + secret words ARE your identity. If you forget them, you'd need to create a new identity. This is the tradeoff for not storing your credentials on any server.

Can I change my display name?

Yes, just log in again and enter a different display name. Your underlying identity (address) stays the same.

How does my identity work across OMXUS apps?

Same name + birthday + secret words = same identity everywhere. Your identity is derived from your words, not stored on any server. It works on bselr, vex, voteaussie, and any other OMXUS app.

It even works offline.

Still stuck?

Check the detailed guides or post in the community forums. Someone's probably had the same problem.
